How to manage “Out of stock” inventory

An “Out of stock” product can be very frustrating for buyers who are ready to make a purchase. Imagine buyers who are ending up in your store after a Google search and find out that your product is listed but it can’t be purchased. What will happen? They will leave disappointed and are less likely to come back. What can you do? Below you can find a few tips on what to do when you have products that end up with “Out of stock” inventory.

1. First explain why the product is “Out of stock”

For example if you have products that are available only for a period of time, for example Christmas, explain it to your customers. Just include in the product description that the product is available only from October until December. But don’t remove the product. The product pages are indexed by search engine bots and they might remove the product page if they don’t find it.

2. Offer a similar product

Using our Product recommendations app list similar products to the product that you know soon will be “Out of stock”. By doing so and offering an alternative to the initial choice, it is more likely that your customer will buy another product. This way you won’t lose customers and you will boost your sales as well.

3. Offer email alerts

Don’t lose sales because the product your customers wish to buy is sold out. Soldigo’s Back in stock app gives your customers the possibility to sign up for a back in stock email alert. The app will notify, by sending an email, your buyers who are interested in an “Out of stock” product. This way they will be the first who can purchase the product when the product is back in stock.

We hope that these tips will help you retain your customer and boost your sales. If you have any other ideas please share with us. Sharing is caring!
